Meet a Saltie

The coder from Stallarholmen who became Head of Curriculum at SALT.

Meet Marcus Rådell, Software Developer and Head of Curriculum at SALT.

Tell us a bit about yourself Marcus

My name is Marcus Rådell, and I’m 41 years old. So one more year for me to figure out the meaning of life :-) I was raised in a small village called Stallarholmen in Strängnäs. Nowadays I live in Upplands-Bro with my wife, two kids, and dog.

What do you do at SALT?

At SALT, I am the Head of Curriculum and lead the Instructor's team. I work with the vision for our career programs. My goal is to keep pushing our content so it focuses on important fundamentals with a modern approach.

What do you like the most about your job?

SALT isn’t just my dream job, but my actual dream come true!  I love to coach, and I’m a creative person who likes to problem-solve. At SALT, we make the assumed impossible to become provenly possible. I need to question most of the assumptions around how we teach programming and find creative ways to make a complex topic simple. The process is never done, and we always find new ways to improve, which provides the kind of challenge I need to thrive at work. It also helps to have so many great people around me who share my passion for programming and coaching!

What did you do before SALT?

I have a background as a martial arts teacher, and borrow a lot of pedagogy from my training. I also learned a lot as a kid when playing pen-and-paper role-playing games. After studying computer science, I started as a professional developer in 2008 and noticed that I had a knack for code quality. I was usually the one who fixed bugs and cleaned up code bases. Over the years, I’ve found my home as a full-stack developer that can go from idea all the way to delivery.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself 🙂
I have a black belt in Taekwondo and I have a new gimmick to break a plank with my hand during our graduations at SALT.

Thank you Marcus for the chat!
